Bard Owl Books was inspired by my daughter, Gwen. I wanted her to have books that helped her learn about local wildlife with real, hand-illustrated pictures with plenty of detail. As a life long artist, I was up for the challenge! Honestly, I was tired of reading her low content, computer generated, AI assisted books. I saw a need for authentic, artful books with real facts for bright children... and books that are also fun for parents!

Who Lives Here? is an interactive, illustrated children’s book that explores the temperate mixed and broadleaf forests of North America. Each spread features a mysterious animal track that leads to the discovery of an amazing local animal who lives in the forest. Through hand crafted cut-out illustration and charming rhymes, children are introduced to early animal tracking and species identification skills, habitats, and common animal behaviors. Whether it’s a fox, bobcat, or opossum, every footprint is a step into the magic of nature.

About the Artist

Cee Thorketil (Chris Grimes) is an artist and writer with a deep passion for the wild and its diverse species and habitats. She lives with her family on their regenerative farm and forest, Bard Owl Farm, in Maine, USA, where she creates art, writes stories, farms, and continues to learn about the native species around her. Through her creations, she hopes to inspire a new generation of naturalists who will reap the wellness benefits of being in touch with nature and in turn, will also support its ongoing protection. She graduated from the Emily Carr University with a BFA in fine art in 2007 and has been exhibiting her fine art since.
