Growth, 12"x12" oil, wax and acrylic paint on cradled wood panel.
I've always been mesmerized by tree rings, a yearly record of the specific environment that a tree grew and the life it had lived. Time is something we humans have a hard time grasping, always relative to our own limited lived experience. Seeing tree rings helps ground us in a sense of time beyond ourselves that is fully visible and helps us appreciate the consciousness of trees. It's a beautiful feeling full of wonder and magic, something I hope to express through subtle abstraction.
